The UBA’s motto, For our environment (“Für Mensch und Umwelt”) sums up our mission pretty well, we feel.  As Germany’s main environmental protection agency , our task is to ensure that our fellow citizens have a healthy environment with clean air and water, free of pollutants to the greatest extent possible.  Here at the UBA, we concern ourselves with an extremely broad spectrum of issues, including waste avoidance, climate protection, and pesticide approvals.

The Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Nuclear Safety and Consumer Protection (BMUV) is responsible for a range of government policies that are reflected in the name of the ministry itself. The ministry has been working over 30 years to protect the public from environmental toxins and radiation, to promote the wise and efficient use of raw materials, to advance climate action and to ensure that natural resources are used in a way that protects the diversity of animal and plant species and preserves their habitats.

Our institute adopts a transdisciplinary approach in order to respond to urgent environmental and sustainability issues. The answers we provide are not found in a scientific ivory tower, but through in-depth dialogue with stakeholders from industry, science and society.
